As for people who want to improve their upper body strength without having to lift any heavy weights (I've found this the most popular approach), consider a weight and intensity program that contains the following: 5 sets of two 5% body weight squats or deadlifts with a weight that is 30 lbs lighter than your starting weight. 3 sets of 2 sets of 1-5 RM sets (3-5 reps at 50% 1 repetition maximum) with a weight that is 30 lbs less than your starting weight 3 sets of 2 sets of 3-5 RM sets (3-5 reps at 50% 1 repetition maximum) with a weight that is 80 lbs. less than your starting weight 5 sets of 4×3 dumbbell rows in the round 4 sets of 3 reps of 10×1 with a weight that is 60 pounds less than your starting weight. 4 sets of 4 rep of 12RM with a weight that is 120 lbs. less than your starting weight. These exercises can all be done in the off cycle, but only do them after the off cycle strength training has been done. I wouldn't recommend doing any of these exercises on the off-cycle period as your muscle fibers would get very sore by these exercise and not able to repair them. In addition, try to vary the exercises to find out which are making the most difference. If you aren't sure which exercise you should be doing then just do it and see if it's hurting your upper body.
